Understand your license scope
Which license covers access control in Texas?
If you are searching for an access control license in Texas, start with the actual equipment and services you will provide. Company authorization and an individual installer's license are separate requirements.
Company license and service scope
Electronic access control is a regulated Class B service category. Texas law also permits certain access control work within an alarm company's authorized scope. We review your proposed work before recommending an application path; a Class B license alone does not authorize every security service.
Individual installer requirements
Electronic Access Control Device Installer and Alarm Systems Installer are distinct individual license types. The individual role must cover the work and be appropriately affiliated with a licensed company. Access control authorization does not automatically permit alarm installation.
Door hardware and other limits
Readers and controllers are only part of a safe door system. Mechanical locksmith work, fire systems, electrical work, permits and door egress requirements can involve other rules. We help you recognize when a qualified specialist or separate authorization is needed.
DPS determines eligibility, approved services and license issuance. Use its current guidance to confirm the requirements for your situation.
Your path through TOPS
From application plan to licensed work.
STEP 01
Define your services
Tell us whether you plan to install card readers, door controllers, credentials, cloud access software or integrated alarm systems. We help map the work to the appropriate company scope and individual roles.
STEP 02
Confirm a lawful qualifying role
Your company representative must meet DPS experience and examination requirements for the relevant services and hold a permitted role with real oversight. For an entity, that can mean a qualifying officer or a partner or shareholder with at least 25% ownership. A sole proprietor must qualify personally.
STEP 03
Prepare and submit through TOPS
We help organize company and individual applications, affiliations and supporting records. You submit the required information directly to TOPS and complete applicable fingerprints, insurance, training and fees. DPS evaluates and approves the applications.
STEP 04
Start work within your approved scope
Required licenses and affiliations must be in place before regulated work begins. Briva's 24-month support and representation term starts when your business license is issued. We help you build documented experience and prepare for a later transition; DPS decides future eligibility.
Training for access control installers.
Electronic access control training covers system design, installation, troubleshooting and the rules that apply to the work. Match the course to your individual license type and confirm current DPS acceptance before enrolling. The company representative examination is a separate qualification step.
Training providers are independent. Check current approval, prerequisites, availability and fees before purchasing a course.

Is access control included in an alarm license?
Texas law allows certain access control services within alarm company and alarm installer authority, but the equipment, approved company scope and individual qualifications matter. We review your actual services rather than assume every Class B license covers the same work.
Does an access control course give me a Texas license?
A training certificate is not a DPS license. The company and each applicable individual still need to complete the licensing process and meet the relevant qualifications.
Can Briva serve as the company representative for any new business?
Eligibility depends on the company structure, services, qualifying individual and actual oversight arrangement. We review fit before an agreement. A sole proprietor must meet the representative requirements personally.
One clear program
Licensing help. Two years of ongoing support.
Our program is $375 at setup and $375 per month for 24 months, for a total program cost of $9,375. Monthly billing and the two-year term begin on the day your business license is issued. State application and examination fees, fingerprints, courses, insurance and other outside costs are separate and confirmed in your agreement.
Briva Alarm is a service of Briva Alarm & Voice, LLC, a licensed Texas Class B security company. We review eligibility and the lawful representative arrangement before enrollment. Your company obtains its own license at the start of operations; successful completion of the program does not guarantee future DPS approval.
